I own a couple of .22 rifles with no SN# and in my line of work if it was a bad thing it would be bad for me. Don't worry about it. If he wants a way to track it if stolen use a etching pen to etch his drivers license number on it someplace that will not distract from the rifle. Driver's license numbers are better than using a SSN, but be sure to use 2 letters for the state. IE, Washington = WA .
