View Full Version : A Marlin 336 Puzzle

Was looking at a Marlin 336 carbine today, serial # Gxxxxx, so it's a 1950 rifle, according to Brophy...but...the barrel is clearly rollmarked "336 R.C." I can't find any mention or explanation in Brophy's book of an "R.C." -- S.C. (sporting carbine, yes, but not R.

Anyone got any ideas??? Thanks!

According to Fjestad.

Thanks! Maybe RC stands for "regular carbine" rather than "sporting carbine"? The sporting version had a half mag, this one is full length. Funny that Brophy doesn't seem to even mention that, but that book is a little hard to find things in, so maybe I'm missing it.

Yes indeed, the RC does indeed stand for regular carbine. For more information on the subject go to the Marlin websight and do a search on "Marlin Talk"
