View Full Version : Mauser bolt face profile

I'm getting the odds and ends together to build my wife a new rifle. The receiver is a Turk 96. This is one of those that have the dimensions of the large ring but the thread pattern of a small ring.

I would like to build this rifle in .223. I know that the magazine, rails and other things will need to be modified for the smaller cartridge. Will there be a need to alter the bolt breech face profile? I'm talking about the little lip on the edge of the breech. Also, will any work be needed on the extractor?

Unless you are absolutely stuck on the .223, it would be a LOT easier to build that rifle in .22-250.

I'm with Clemson. Interesting idea though. Just the rails modifications (welding up machining down) would probably be more than a headache, without messing up the temper of the action. A longer "claw" on the extractor would be the smallest problem to deal with. You'd need to do some lengthening to the ejector too. But hey if you got the time and equipment GO FOR IT
