View Full Version : Rechamber .35 Rem to .358 Win

Would this be possible, and would there be problems with the Mag. tube and feeding. I'm looking for a way to get a .358 cal. 180 gr. hard cast lead flat point to 2500 fps. in a lever gun.

Marlin used to sell the 336 er in 356 winchester. This is basically a semi rimmed 358 win with flat or round nosed bullets to be used in a lever gun. Rechambering from .35 rem I'm sure would require a bit of bolt face work due to the different case head diameters. There are also some savage 99's and browning lever guns that were made in .358 win. Good shooting, Weagle

On a lever gun there will be more changes than simple rechambering. The o/a length of the cartridges is different and I don't think the Marlin receiver is long enough to handle the .358 Winchester. At a very minimum, the carrier would have to be altered, since Marlin never made their rifles in that caliber, so a new one could not be ordered.

I think I would try for a Savage or a BLR that was made for the .358 in the first place.
