View Full Version : rem 1100 action bar

Took the Rem 1100 12 guage magnum (Left hand) to the gunsmith for a cleaning. The action had been getting difficult to open. He called back and said that a chip from the action bar had been floating in the carrier, and was getting in the way. He removed the chip, and said it should be ok. He said the chip didn't compromise the action bar(Apparently it was small).

Question 1 does this happen alot?

Q2 should I get the $70 action bar changed now, or wait until the action bar breaks?

I agreed with him that a chip didn't warrant replacing the action bar, but just wanted a little reassurance.

Thanks guys!

A chip in the bar should not cause it to break, especially if your gunsmith said it would be OK. There is plenty of meat in the bar on the 1100. Why worry. If it should happen to break then replace it. The only exception to this might be if it is the firearm that you keep around the house for self protection. In that case you may wish to replace it just for your piece of mind if nothing else. Good Shooting-John K
