View Full Version : High Polish?

Saw a 1911 with a "high blue" polish on it, almost mirror shiny. Is it possible to put a high polish on an auto(i.e. slide) without sending it out to some of the often talked about places that do finishes? I imagine it would depend on the existing surface of the metal, but I'm not sure. It sherrrr looked pretty though! :)

Who has had/or did a high/shiny polish on their pistol and liked it?

Mike, it's called a Master finish. Firearms are polishind to a 550grit on felt wheels to acheive it. Done correctly it's the most beautiful finish there is in my opinion but unless done by someone who knows what they're doing the results are usually less than expected. That's why they call it a Master finish. George

Yes you can, use 600 grit wet-dry papper, and sand length wise, like you would wood. then use 1500 or 2000 grit, to finish. watch the dips, like screw holes, so you don,t round them, they should have nice sharp shoulders, and polish in one deriction only. have done bolt action riffles that folks think are cromed.
