I have been looking for an 18" barrel for my 870 with no luck, supposedly Remington does not sell that barrel individually as a part but Cabella's has a Mossberg Barrel that is 18.5" which leads to my question, Are they any good? And most of all will they cause any reliability problems (Feeding and ejecting the shells properly.)
Thanks

P.S. Is the finish the same as the 870 Express?

Does this help?

Look all the way to the bottom 18.5 inch parkerized barrel.

Remington don't consider their Express parkerized they call it matte black. Does it look the same?

Sorry, I don't know. Haven't ordered one. I have a HD 870, but am not familiar with the barrels listed on the Mossberg site, other than knowing they were listed on it.

I got one few years ago for my Rem 870 Express and they work fine. The finish is blued and doesn't match the Express finish but it works. I think I shot about 200 rounds of various loads. I paid $59 for mine at local Sports Authority because the packaging was damaged. Regular price was $79.

Taco,
Supposedly they have parkerized and blued. So possilbly the parkerized will match the Express finish.
Thanks for the info.

Guys, "Parkerizing" is a chemical process differing from blueing. A Phosphoric Acid bath gives a non glare finish more corrosion resistant than simple blueing does.

What Remington does on their matte products is simple not polish the surfaces, and blue over it. It's non glare, but little more rust resistant than a blued and polished surface. And the slighly increased rust resistance is the result of that uneven surface holding oil better.

FYI Cabela's has a 20" slug barrel for the 870 Express for $104.99 plus shipping. I have one and the finish matches perfectly and I've never had a problem with it. . It is cylinder bore and is fairly accurate with Foster-type slugs and it patterns well with buckshot.

bought a rifled barrel 6 years ago for my son's 870 from mossberg and it is as good as my remington barrel and it was a whole lot cheaper to buy. mossberg set the stage with rifled shotgun barrels and everyone else just followed them.
