View Full Version : bolt removal:rem model 58 semi auto

ok guys im stumped here for the 1dt time in a long time,just acquirred a nice old model 58 and cleaned the barrel,magazine,gas piston,springs etc but how in gods name do they remove the bolt from the reciever?i spent 2 hours on that and ill be darned if i can figure out how to remove the lock block from the bolt itself to take the charge handle out to slide the whole thing forward out of the reciever........any help appreciated,all i have to do now is just clean the bolt and then buff off the greying and she will look mint.

You don't take anything off the bolt before removing the charge handle. You just grasp it and pull straight out. It is held in place like the 1100/1187 handles -- by light spring tension. After you get the handle out, the carrier with the bolt riding on it will come out the front of the receiver with a little bit of "worrying" with the shell stops.

ahhhmany thanx that makes sense,figures the one thing i didnt try on this particular rem.
