Anybody else go out Saturday for early Canadian Goose season? We bagged 11 total on the Susquehanna River. Would've had a lot more if it weren't for an idiot bass fishermen going full throttle in his bass boat right when we were calling in a HUGE flock. They were 80 yards away and moving closer towards our decoys when the idiot flew by in his boat. GRRRRRRRRR

Hopefully, the situation won't repeat again in 5 hours.

I went out for Virginia's goose season on Saturday. I usually jump shoot them, as I don't have the room for decoys. I was in the canoe just after six, had my goose by 8, and paddled back upriver (the James River).
11? How many guys handled the plucking and skinning chores on those geese? One is enough for me! :)

Personally, I believe that plucking produces better tasting waterfowl because it keeps more of the moisture in while being cooked.

Plucking isn't difficult if you boil the bird for 3-4 minutes prior to plucking. To pluck a bunch of birds, I use a 100 Qt cooler to hold all the birds.

However, if there's a pile of birds from a very successful hunt, I usually will skin 1 out of every 3.

Tonight, I had several friends over for dinner. One of the couples are bunny huggers. They'll eat meat if it's store bought

They commented that the roasted, potatoe and carrot goose was 'delicious'. Only if they knew ;)

The head and neck impact area are hidden for "tasteful" reasons.
Hey Son, how about some recipes? My brother in law and I are looking for some ideas for cooking the next one.....

Too many good recipes for me to write. However, I have a page on my site that has the majority of my favorite goose recipes.

Hey Poodleshooter

I got 3 more today. I've been using Hevi Shot #2. These shells are unbelievable! Forget spending all that money on Kent Impacts or Bismuth. I'm definitely sold!

I got these out of the canoe.

Good shooting! I love canoeing for them-evn if there's no kill, it's still a great time. I'd go out again, but I'm still chewing on smoked goose from the first one :) I used Winchester X-pert cheap steel with #2's. I'm planning to start reloading some fast steel loads with #1 or BB soon....
Thanks for the recipes!
