View Full Version : I got it! SWAT arrives

I received my first issue of SWAT today.

Woohoo! Looking at the cover (showing the Robinson M-96) gave me the impression that maybe George Hill was on the staff now. ;)

The timing was unfortunate- since I had to leave for work shortly afterward- but I did have long enough to see some good articles on: the MAT French subgun, a comparison on old and current .50 rifles, an article on fighting with a shotgun, and (my favorite of what I could see in a hurried perusal) an article about the M1 Carbine.

The article was written by Leroy Thompson, who I enjoy reading anyway, and restated the reasons why the M1 Carbine was, and is, a viable choice for a fighting rifle.

New TFL member Pat Rogers has an article that is obviously information packed, and I know it alone will be worth the purchase price of this mag.

I am very happy with what I see.

Thanks, Rich! Thanks, Denny!

Looks like it has some great articles in it. Haven't had a chance to read any of them yet. I had to come brag first.

Wonder when I'm going to get mine? I couldn't even buy the last one locally after Rich took over. Maybe I'll have to call the Post Office :D

Don't read it, man... don't read it!

If you read it you will want one very badly...
My issue just came today and it pretty much said everything I have been saying about it for 2 years now.

I read all of SWAT last night.

It is now my favorite magazine.

I rate this issue as at least 2x as good as the last SWAT I read, a few months ago.

And I noticed who wrote the LED/key article. :D

Who is this Leroy Thompson guy?
This guy is a living breathing Firearms Museum. He has an article in dang near EVERY gun rag I have ever picked up... and in this issue he has two. LT writes his stuff about guns you will probably never get a chance to see - Like the MAT 49... and there he is shootin the heck out of it and writing about it.
(The guy looks just like my Dad - but my Daddy isnt interested in SMGs and such... just silenced .22s )
Now in this one he reviews that French thing and then the M1 Carbine.
He writes very well and is very accurate in his reviews... Probably one of the best gun writers on the block next to Ed Sanow. Good stuff.

I do have one biatch about this issue. In the M96 Article there is a photo of AR Magazines... 2 sizes. Laying not on an M96... but on a "CROSSFIRE"! For the love of all that is holy!!! A Crossfire?
I can understand using another picture for the purpuse - but the Crossfire? Why not a giant grizzly bear ████?
If you can not tell - I hate the Crossfire and whoever designed that POS needs to get a spanking by a couple very large austrailian women.

We got our first issue yesterday. Everyone at the shop read it throughout the day. Of course I had to casually mention at least 150 times that I knew the publisher. :D

You haven't gotten one?

That's pretty rich, Rich!

I posted a blurb and a link to the website from my online journal. I got an inquiry as to when Shin Tao would be posing for the cover and a comment from some guy I've never heard of (why is he reading my journal?) saying "I've only played the third one and I didn't think it was good enough to warrant its own magazine." Huh? It took some real head-scratching before I figured out he's talking about some video game called "SWAT."

Shin on the Cover? Naw... How about Duck Hunt in an Ad in the back pages? ;)

Other than the Crossfoul in an otherwise great article - this magazine rocks.

Here I was starting to get worried that my mailman had absconded with my issue and I find that the publisher and editor haven't received theirs yet. Guess I'll wait a couple days before talking with the mailman;)

I got mine yesterday, finished reading it, bout an hour ago. I enjoyed it very much. I have never thought much about tatics, equipment and such before, other than some reading I have done on sniper traning on a CD from US Military manuals.

Reading this made me realize that Survival for many of us civilians "should the SHTF" would not be to good, if the UN comes to take our guns, most of us wouldn`t last 5 Min. I think it would make since that we all need to know the basics.

George, how much does that M96 cost? And do they have or have plans to make it in .308?

I COULD JUST SPIT!!!!!!!

Our Ad Sales People we're asked in time for the July issue to remove the girly ads from the magazine. I just received October:
"Asian Beauties Worldwide"
"Free PartyLine"
"Armed Legged and Dangerous"
"Pleasure Dome"
"Solid Brass Knuckles"

I ordered my M96 last week and I owe it all to great advice from guys like you all! I hope my order gets processed before everyone reads "SWAT" and decides to buy one. Man, the wait will be at LEAST 5-6 months if Robinson keeps getting this great press. Maybe now they can go full-speed-ahead with the Belt Feed and 9mm conversion.

I ordered my VEPRII .223 last week too so...

Thanks everyone,
Jack from Maine:D

I didn't see "http://thefiringline.com/" anywhere in the magazine.

Maybe that's a good thing . . . ?

and if only that M96 came in .308 Win.

Suggested Retail for the M96 is $1599US. Kinda steep - but you do get what you pay for. I have seen them as low as 1200 on a few rare occasions.

I've fired several examples as all were 100% reliable, and just plain fine rifles.
The only .223 autorifle in this class is the HK SL8 series for the same money. The draw back on the HK is that it is stuck with goofy 10 round magazines while the M96 can use any AR type magazine.
I recomend Thermold or Orlites as USGI mags are aluminum and can get screwed up. In any autloader, your weapon is only as reliable as your magazine...
