View Full Version : Summer's End National Gathering
George Hill
July 30, 2001, 11:50 AM
The Idea was put forth to hold a National TFL Gathering September 15th and 16th.
Location will be in Utah and probably the same location as the last 2 UT TFL Gatherings.
You guys up for this?:D

That is the same time as the PA gathering! :(

Hmmm... Any other date suggestions?

CO?
Not like I'd go, but you want something in the main mess of interstates.
Someone with some ambition could map out all the committed and extrapolate a central point or state.

WE could make the PA shoot a National TFL one!! :D

We like Utah as a location but the weekend of 9/15 & 16 we have another gathering to attend in Arizona.
George Hill
July 30, 2001, 03:39 PM
Hey now, I asked for Dates - not Locations.
Lets make it a DUAL Gathering... One in PA and One in UT and people can go to the one they want. Okay? Some folks out west can make it to Utah, but PA is too far.
We'll keep it on the 15th and 16th.
Each Gathering take a nice group "Team Photo" and we will take the two images and put them together into one large photo edited group photo!

Sounds like a good plan to me... I will setup the video link :p
I will make sure that atleast 2 Digital Camera's are at the PA meet also.... :D
Would be really nice if we could get a Mid_western meet going around the same days also (CO maybe)???

Very Cool George!!!! Thanks for putting up the Thread:cool:
Hopefully a few more States will do this and not just Utah and PA. A weekend of TFL Gatherings would be great.

With all the members we have here, you'd think TX could host every once in a while......

George,
I like SodaPop's idea - set a date and let TFLer's all over meet for local/regional/state shoots. The idea would be to put a lot of lead in the air, regardless of where that air is, eh? Hopefully the dates will work for me.

I'm interested. How far from the nearest airport (not a "chicken run" type please) is the Utah shoot? Is it near SLC?
Correia
July 30, 2001, 08:31 PM
Doug, we shoot to an area that is probably about 40 miles to the south of the SLC airport. Let us know if you plan on flying out and we will help arrange stuff for you like transportation or lodging if you are so interested.
Yea, how about it Texas? You guys seem to have the most TFLers. Drizzt, maybe you should try to put one together. Harrass Dennis and Art about it.
Wouldn't it be cool to have like 10 different TFL gatherings that weekend? Just off of the top of my head I know that Utah and Pennsylvania could do it. Georgia seems to be able to put together a good bunch. (Having lived in Alabama in saddens me to see Georgia beat 'Bama at anything ;) )
George, maybe we should put up a thread in General. Get all the other states attention. Then have them come here to have a roll call and organize their shoots.
I do think that every shoot should have some commonality for the sake of TFL togetherness:
1. Blast a watermelon with a 12 ga. up close at the very end.
2. Eat some Bratwurst, or what ever your regional TFL food of choice is. :)

Our regional Food is the Philly Cheese Steak and Soft Pretzels. And a nice Italian Hoagie.

Philly Cheese Steak - oh my aching plugged arteries!
Sushi - not unless it is cooked.
Whatinhell is a "Hoagie" oh you mean Hero.
So much for "Regional" food.
How about some Bratwurst, my vote for official TFL food:D
Soda find out if W & W will let us set up a grill. :D

Son, I love sushi. You should have seen Bob West (fellow Utah TFLer) when I tried to get him to eat some though. :)
I think this is a great idea. Have a whole bunch of seperate TFL gatherings on the same day. This should rock.

Once we settle ona date I can try to line up the big tents and some more tables again, plus Doug444's we should have a great set up. We need to start spreading the word on this. If you go to another websight please drop it in their "shoots and meets" board!
The more people the better, maybe get a few more class III's out there and really tear up the big rock.
We need to plan out the events a bit better than we have so we can make a couple of fun days out of it. It will help make it worth while for those from other states to drive over and shoot with us.
We could also plan some activities for the kids and other non shooters that may come with the shooter, maybe get a group discount for a good action/progun movie for Saturday night.
George Hill
July 31, 2001, 03:20 PM
Thats the idea with this being a 2 day event...
Whatever movie we feature - it will NOT be Planet of the Apes! ;)
We could make it an over nighter too - Set up regular tents and just camp out.

Lets stick to the two Sept dates. Its a month and a half away so most people should be able to make plans. George- can you put up a banner like the new S.W.A.T banner for this National TFL Gathering??????
I'll ask the people at Water and Wings if we can set up a Grill. I am going to see if I can get some guy I met at the range to bring his 50BMG to the TFL shoot in Sept.
We need someone to run from the PA Cheese Steak Grill, to the Utah Bratwurst Grill, with a torch or something to start the Festivities.
And Release some Doves at the Sporting Clays Field. Well maybe not that;)

We might be able to do something like that... ;)

What kinda sushi you guys eat??? Some of that stuff can get pretty Challenging. Crazy Rolls are nuts! (yea yea you have to be crazy to try them)
SodaPop, Are there any Japenese place's out by W&W that have sushi??? I never found one yet! I will ask my friend to look around if they can find one if you dont know.
Jamie Young
August 1, 2001, 08:50 PM
Can you make Sushi out of Trout???? They have a Pond next to the range. There use to be a Red Lobster not too far from the Range but I don't think it there. We have to come up some kind of group games for each State.

August 2, 2001, 07:07 AM
Spectre, you were reading my mind. TFLers could hold regional or state meets on the same weekend nationally and the following Monday would be an image posting frenzy ... :) I think Fort Valley would be a good place for a GA meet. I need a chance to try out my new digital camera anyway. What d'yall say?
Sept/Oct was when we were going to try it again anyway. Let's doooo it. BTW, FL, AL, TN, SC, etc., TLFers could converge here. Mason-Dixon Line is the cut-off. North of that, you have to go to the PA shoot ...:D:D

Yes, George, eventually I WILL be there. It seems that everytime I plan to show, I end up working. Never failed yet! :(
Well, I fixed them this time! I blew out my Achilles tendon and they tell me I can't work until it's healed! Sometime in October, though I'll be able to do light non-athletic stuff well before. Hopefully a TFL gathering will fit the bill if not too soon, still not getting about too well. Regardless, though, I doubt I can join in the Tent Chasing event for quite some time!

August 4, 2001, 01:41 AM
yorec. The chasing part is easy. It is the catching part that is difficult. :)
I'm sorry about your tendon. That sucks. We don't do anything too athletic though. But if PvtPyle asks if you want to go on a little hike to test some gear, just run away! ;)

As of right now I've got the weekend of the SLC shoot off. If we can excape for that weekend we will be tent camping and bringing our 2 daughters with us (3 & 8) We would arrive sometime Friday afternoon and stay till sometime early afternoon Sunday.
Anybody else bringing their family along??
Is their a campgrond semi close to the range with running water/showers and most important flush potties??
How about kids shoots?? We will bring a .22 rifle and pistol for the munchkins.

Joey,
The Utah Lake State Park is almost directly across the lake, but that's about an hour's drive from the shoot site. I know that it has all the things you want, though. I think that's the closest developed camping you'll find. Reasonable, too - $12-14 a night, I believe. Do a search on Utah State Parks and you'll find the reservations and info site. Good luck!

Wot's up wi dat?
Sick of knowing 'bout 3 TFLers by facial recognition & ready to be a Utahn (how is it you guys say that anyway? Gotta have a southern drawl to it ... ;)
Hell, it's only a 14 hour drive - sounds like a time (or two) ...
"Primitive" camping on-site, you said?
Better'n SERE & it's edible (strike that & insert = tasty), I'd say ...

Archer1440, Its real easy to get to.
Take I-15 South to the main Lehi exit and head west through the town. Out the other side you will come to an intersection... Redwood Road. Take a Left. About 10 miles south on Redwood... There will be a sign that says "TFL". We are up the hill from that sign... You'll see some cars parked and stuff but the tents and everything in not visible from down there where the cars park. The 4X4s can go ahead and climb on up the hill with little problem.
I just got rid of the Supra yesterday... and have a Jeep Cherokee 4X4 now just for these events. :D

George, muchas gracias, I live in SLC and I'll be there if I can avoid a tournament in Sacramento I am supposed to shoot with my quieter weapon of choice...
Labgrade, people in Utah are known as "Utawanians" or"Utahweshians" to us Californians, but since my employer transferred me here going on 2 years ago I suppose I better get over it. Besides it is nice to have a ccw from Utah, good reciprocity. I felt a little more secure spending 10 days in Motown last month with Mr. HK under my left armpit... :)

Needed to bring this back up to the top. Unfortunately, I have bad news (at least for me). I won't be able to attend as I have commitments with both Scouts (service project - helping to build a new Methodist church) and work (end of summer BBQ at the boss's house). Perhaps I can get down for the wrap up on Sunday. Guess this means no tent-wrassling this time! Sorry guys.

Our schedule is clearing for the 15th and 16th. So, we may be able to make the gathering near Salt Lake City. Is going to be at the same site as the one in May? What time should we arrive on Saturday?

I'm thinking that this is going to be a bad weekend for a full fledged Utah get together. The gun show is that day and I know that a lot of people are going to go to that. (we are pretty starved for gun shows around these parts). I'm thinking that for a full fledged gathering we might need to have it on another day.

Boy am I glad to hear that!! Over here in PA things have gotten a little crazy for that weekend. If you guys want to postpone it or move it I'm up for it. If you don't know whats going on check out our PA thread. Were still having a semi gathering but half the people probable won't be coimng. They aren't into Sporting Clays and the 500yd range got blown up:( . Its probable going to be better for most of my guys if we push it ahead 2-3 weeks. I don't know if its going to be too cold though.
Besides Rich Lucibella said he can't come because he's in Africa.
