View Full Version : Day Two, shooting off-hand at 200 yards, Saiga AK 47

January 16, 2013, 08:08 PM
I decided to go out again today to get used to my first AK, and ended up shooting off-hand at 200 yards on a police issue Silhouette target. The rifle is not sighted in yet, but I knew I shot low from yesterday on the range, and adjusted using Kentucky windage like an old school Flintlock man does!!!

Tons of fun! That was a surprise how much fun the AK is to shoot.

Mine got a lot more fun when I put the Tapco collapsible stock, butt pad and Hogue grip on. I feel like I could shoot it all day (even in a T shirt) and not feel it in my shoulder. Adding 2-3 inches to the LoP made all the difference in the world.

Those Saigas are great guns. Good enough for any purpose you'd put them toward, aside from dangerous game.

Sorry, but shooting an AK with improperly adjusted sights offhand @200 yards sounds like a lesson in futility and waste of ammo.

Come on, lighten up. He was having fun, and that's all that matters. Him shooting his AK at 200 is like taking long shots with a pistol. Probably a waste of ammo, but it sure is fun. And the whole reason to go out and shoot like that is to enjoy it, which he did. :)

He hit the target, more than once, which is well done with an AK style rifle offhand at 200 yards. Glad to see more people with video evidence, instead of just claims. :) Very well done, sir, you are quite good with a rifle, and thank you very much for sharing.

You are funny! 3 kill shots out of five with the target totally blind is not good enough for you eh??? You can't make everybody happy I guess...

When I get the elevation correct at 100 yards, I will do it again at 300 yards and see if that make you happier ... I doubt it though;)

The AK is a fun platform to shoot ... Period. The ammo is still relatively cheap by comparison ... my .458 lott custom ammo runs $150.00 per 20, and even my 350 Rem. Mag which uses custom loads from Superior Ammo runs $76.00 per 20, so $28.00 per 100 rounds for Tula is GREAT!

"a lesson in futility and a waste of ammo"

Some would say a challenge in thinking, since you have to re-calculate the ballistics and then have the skills to execute your theorem! Sounds like fun to me, and it is never a waste of AMMO to expand your skill levels in REAL WORLD SHOOTING, as most gunfights do not involve sandbags.

One man's waste is another man's homework and a fun day!!! :D

You need to keep an eye on your ammo level. 7.62x39mm is in short supply right now and what is available is priced pretty high right now.

Yea, I know I should keep track of the ammo, but, and there always is a but in life, since it is my working rifle I need to know how it shoots, and break it in, then stock ammo... I hope I can find some ammo at the gunshow if I can afford it at the moment with all the panic stuff pricing going on...
