I am looking for a metal took box to inconspicuously transport equipment to the range and back. I do not want to freak out my neighbors in the current climate.
For rifle or shot gun that can me taken down readily. Should be able to lock for secure transport as well.

You might want to check out a carpenter's tool box.
Here is a link to one that is 32" long, at Wally World.

I use a plumbers hard bottom canvas tool bag, Innocuous looking, lockable and has a lot of pockets to stuff your gear into.

How about something like a rolling golf bag. I've seen them in hard sided cases also. Just stick a couple of putters in the outside pockets and you'll look like your heading to the green instead of the range.

Get a Pelican case and slap some DeWalt stickers on it.

I use a Bucket Boss tool 'bag' I got from farm and fleet. Very durable and 24" long. It can hold a lot of weight.

(Forgot to mention 'locking' is done with the zipper, maybe not so good for that.)

Do you realize this is exactly what the gun grabbers want? They want to chase us into the shadows and to make everyone else think guns are bad.
Your neighbors know you already and hopefully think you are a stand up guy. So show them that one does not have to be a lunatic to own and enjoy guns. I'm not saying to go around shouting it from the rooftop, but it's your own dang house and everything you have is legal. Don't give into their trying to make you feel ashamed of something that is not shameful.

Not ashamed of what I own but there are people who would be better off not knowing what you have or where it is.

I have a wheeled Stanley toolbox. Lots of capacity, easy to move, and not too pricey.

I carry my 91/30 out to my truck uncased. The only thing my neighbors say is hey can I tag along to the range.. They have a lot of brief case looking hand gun cases. For my nice rifles I like Pelican stuff. Its not cheap but for a scoped rifle that ya have 3k in whats 200 for a nice case.
