Where is the cheapest place to buy ghostring sights for an 870?
Thanks!

Most gunshops have smithing facilties available that can do this, especially if you go for a Williams or Lyman peep instead of the milspec stuff. As to durability, I've seen no glitches in nearly two decades of use.

Call around and price check, but I'd settle for a good smith that I know.

MMC

Scattergun Tech division of Wilson Combat

Vang Comp Systems, top tactical shotgun gunsmithing
http://www.vangcomp.com/

Have used a Scattergun Tech ramped tritium front sight with a plain MMC ghost-ring rear on both my tactical shotguns. Fast to acquire and robust. One set was installed on my Vang-built 870. The other was done by a local gunsmith; pretty straightforward job.

All three links here are reputable, with great products and workmanship.

Would also suggest you run a search (top-right of your screen) on this forum about this topic for more info.

I would second the MMC I have a set on my 870 and benelli and love those sights, very sturdy.

I was going to strongly recommend MMC's but then you specified "cheap." If you change your mind, go with the MMC's , they are great.

How much are MMC GR sights...couldn't tell from the website.

There is another very good ghost ring rear sight on the market. The Italian made LPA which is imported by Mec-Gar.
It is a little cheaper then MMC and is available from Brownell's

The expensive part of installing MMC sights is the front sight. It is silver soldered in place and the barrel needs to be refinished.

Thanks, DML! I'll seriously consider the Mec-gars. They are $109.00 at Brownells...I don't know how much the MMCs are, but the MMC front sight sounds like a pain in the neck. I assume the Mec-gars have a front sight that can be installed in a normal fashion.

I am looking at the Brownell's catalog right now and I see something rather odd. The MMC rear sight is $99.95 and the Mec-Gar is $109.00, but the dealers price on the Mec-Gar is
$14 less then MMC.

The retail price for the MMC band front sight without tritium is $39.95. Mec-Gar also imports a very nice band front sight, but I don't know the price or model number.

I'm confused...Where is the cheapest price for the Mec-gar.

Me too. Call Mec-Gar. 203-639-1120

Alright...I called Mec-gar and they sell the front for $109.00 and the rear for $109.00 ($218 total!). They told me to try PSI...they sell the rear for $99.00 and both for $170.00...much better. Because of installation of the rear sight (three holes to drill) PSI suggested I contact Van Comp (805) 964-7956 to get a package deal on sights/installation. Hanz Van Comp is gone 'till 4-15-01.

So...$170 plus installation.

My question: Why not just buy a Mossberg ghostring sight system (front AND rear)for $49.00 from Cheaperthandirt.com (catalog # 46436)? Am I missing something? Will the Mossberg system work on an 870? Don't see why not.

TCW, I guess the thing to do is to call the tech staff @ CTD and ask. If Brownells carry the Mossberg GR, I'm sure THEIR tech staff can answer that one - they can probably tell you even how to fit it to the 870...do they carry the item, by chance?
