hello...I am trying to find out how old and value of a gun I have..It is a stevens 12 gauge double barrel,30"barrels,60342 is on bottom of left barrel in chamber area,60342 is also on the rear stock on right side of chamber,pat,d pending Mar 26,1878 is on the fore stock,Stevens is on the butt plate,159266 is on inside of fore stock...looking for info on age and value of this gun...Appreciate any help...

Stevens was a prolific maker of utility grade shotguns from approximately the end of the Civil War until it was bought by the Savage Arms Co. just after WWI.
Evaluation of your gun depends on more than serial #s. What kind of wood is used for the stock and what condition is it in? What is the condition of the bores? Barrels....Damascus steel or some thing else? How tight if the barrel to breech fit?
A pic would help.

It sounds like the forend may not be original to the gun.
And........Does it have external hammers ?
