Have any of you worked on free floating the barrel of a Remington 7400 in the area of the front wood fore end stock ?

I have found that the accuracy changes a lot depending on how tight the swivel bolt is, and the fore end wood is in contact with the barrel. So my thought is to free float the barrel in that area.

Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA,
Rich

A true free float on a 7400 is impossible. The barrel is attached at the swivel bolt you mentioned. You can try removing some of the wood but I am not sure if it will help. I don't think the wood is attached to the action or barrel directly and it floats over the piston/gas tube that it covers. The best recommendation I have is torque the screw on the forend swivel to the manufacturer spec every time you clean it.

Thanks, it looks like we have made the same observations. I guess that I'll leave it as is and pay more attention to the torque applied to the sling swivel stud screw.

Thanks for your help,

Rich
