Is it possible to walk into the store & buy a Garand, or is it all a mail order business?

This site will answer any questions about CMP purchases. And, yes you can purchase an M1 in their store.

Plus http://www.odcmp.com/Sales/eligibility.htm for eligibility.

I bought my special grade at the OH store, figured if i was going to drop $1K I wanted to pick the rifle myself. Very cool place and SUPER knowledgeable staff.

You can pick out and buy your Garand at either the North or South Store.

They will even help you with throat and muzzle gages to pick a good barrel.

HOWEVER: After picking out the Garand, you might what to have them mail it for you if you arn't in a hurry. Sates tax at both Ohio and Alabama is more then the shipping would be, you wouldn't have to pay sales tax if they sent it to your house.

If you go to the North or South Store, take your Berth cert, proof of marksmanship, and membership card to a CMP affiliated club.

There are exceptions, and other items that will work. To to the CMP Web Site and check out the Eligability requirements.

Take lots of money, they have stuff other then Garands you'll find out you can't live without.

Also print out the order form. They have then at the CMP Stores but you can save time if you have one all filed out a head of time.

I live just down the road from Camp Perry and the CMP store you walk in and pick out the one you want, hold them fondle them get the one that calls your name. The one that called my name is way out of my price range so I'm saving.

The other exceptions for CMP

"Membership in these organizations satisfies our requirement for purchase. These special affiliates include: Congressionally chartered veterans' organizations such as the VFW, AL, DAV, MCL, etc. U.S. Military services (active or reserves), National Guard, to include retirees. Professional 501(c)3 law enforcement organizations and associations such as the FOP, NAPO, NSA, etc."

If you get one, check out DGRs stocks. He does BEAUTIFUL work. I had a boyds stock on my Garand. It was awful, ugly, rough and annoyed the hell out of me. Bought one from Dean and it's smooth...has a nice shine...fits exceptionally well...looks amazing. Did I mention it looks amazing?

:D

Only the stock on my 1903A3 is better, and that's because it's a stock from the 40s in amazing condition.

The cost of sales tax vs shipping was clarified for me this summer. I was going to have my older Son pick one out for me but found that it would cost more for him to carry it out than for them to ship it to my door. We decided he would pick it out and let them ship it.
