A co-worker asked me abut an AK-47 that does not have a detachable magazine,,,
He said it had the word "wassah" (sp?) in it's name.

Do any of you AK-47 aficionado's know what he's referring to?

My knowledge of anything AK related is very minimal,,,

Is it possible he's talking about an SKS variant?

Thanks in advance.

Well the WASR 10 does have a detachable magazine and does look like an AK-47. The SKS fires the same ammo as an AK-47 but doesn't come standard with a detachable mag. It doesn't look anything like the AK. Sounds like he was talking about two different rifles.

Maybe he is talking about a wasr 10 with that is compliant to some state with strict rules. I have seen a couple of sellers that make models with fixed mags that have to be top loaded.

That's my thought too. In England, they have WASRs that have been converted to essentially be bolt action guns that load from the top. Fire a round, charge the handle, repeat. Very odd but maybe someone brought it with them to the US
