View Full Version : Mildot scope for Sig 716?

July 28, 2012, 11:18 PM
I want a mildot 4-12X40 or 4-12X50. I looked at the Leupold Firedot but it got some bad reviews because the illuminated reticle did not work consistently.

What about the Redfield Revolution?

What Leupold scopes fit the above criteria?

What else would you recommend?

As much as I like Leupolds, I don't have a solid IR recommendation for your 716.

Instead, and bearing in mind that this is the real world and most people don't have $2500 or more laying around for a scope... I'd suggest the IOR Valdada 2.5-10x42 30mm MIL/MIL Tactical FFP MP-8 Dot IR. Around $1400 list, but if you look around they can be had for $1100.

If on the other hand, you do have lots of dosh for a scope... Schimdt & Bender, Carl Zeiss Hensoldt, March, US Optics and Premier Heritage... although I don't believe Premier does a IR.

Addendum: I apologize. Normally, I don't recommend anything without more information. It's late and I'm tired... so take my suggestion with a grain of salt. G'Night. :o

Check out the Vortex Viper PST line of scopes

I just bought a Vortex Viper PST scope and it has exceeded my expections. I have never had a scope with more solid precise clicks as this one when you move the turrets say 8 clicks the lines match perfectly on the dial there is no well now it's resting kind of on the line or just one past it is dead on and back no matter how many times you move it.

My brother has this Trijicon Accupoint on his Savage 110 BA. It is very nice. I haven't shot with it, but I have looked through it. The optics seemed brighter than my older Leupold 4.4-14 X 40 Tactical.

The center dot is very visible, even in the late afternoon. You can close the cover to reduce the brightness if you need to.

They also make a 3x9 with mil-dots.

Had my 716 for two weeks now, and finally got it dialed in last Saturday, for the most part. Put the Leupold Mark 4 2.5-8x36 on it, and so far at 100 yds she's grouping just under one MOA. I was running out of time (and it was getting hella hot) but I will try to post pics in a week or two, once I get another morning at the range. Mine's a Mil-Dot reticle, and it works for me, especially in a quick-detach mount like a LaRue or American Defense - makes using the back-up iron sights easy.

As for reliability? Who knows yet, I've only put about 100 rounds downrange, some of these were match-grade 168 gr. Hornady and Federal Gold Medal (Sierra Matchking), others were just 147 fmj Winchester and 150 gr. speer (handloaded).
