I spotted a box of ammunition I never seen before- Hornadys SUPERFORMANCE .223REM 75 grain OTM at an advirtised 2900 FPS.

This block was a spare that I didnt calibrate, but a previous block from another test was correct.

Fired from an 18 inch barrel at a distance of 10 feet.

Penetration was 10 inches, with a 5 inch maximum temporary cavity. The bullet completely disintegrated, and had a neck of about 1/2 inch (the angle of the picture makes the neck seem longer).

Has anyone else seen ths stuff? Although some people consider this to be underpenetration, this may become my new self defense round.

Also, I suspect the reason for the "shallow penetration" was becuase the lack of a neck in the travel path. Had the bullet penetrated nose forward for a couple of inches, it may have reached 12-14 inches of penetration.

I may test this round again to see if I get the same results.

I am very interested to see further tests of this round, keep up the good work!

The lack of penetration is good for the shooter, bad for the victim. A bullet exiting is wasted energy.
