Hi all -

Thanks to my Citi Bank "Thank you" card I have $525.00 worth of Cabela's gift cards and am looking to buy a new handgun. I am leaning towards a 1911 style gun and looking for suggestions on which 1911 to buy. I am willing to throw in another $500.00 if needed.

Outside of a 1911 suggestion if you had $1,000.00 to spend at Cabela's what would you buy?

I already have a Sig 226 9mm and a S&W MP .40.

Thanks!

I don't have a Cabela's in my area. I don't know which brands they sell. A Springfield Armory 1911 can be had in your price range of $500 to $1000. I have the G.I. model and it is a great gun. Not to mention, SA has excellent customer service.

Good luck.

I'm trying to remember what Cabela's had in stock when I was last in one (July); I recall it having a LOT of Kimbers and probably a good number of SA's, Taurus, and probably a fair few others in your price range. I've been researching the crap out of 1911's in that same price range, getting ready to buy my first one. Since you really do need to buy it from Cabela's, I'd look for a SA, probably the Range Office or Loaded (if they have either). If, by some miracle, they have or can get and STI, that would be a really good one to look at. The STI Trojan in 9mm is what I'm planning on getting in the next few weeks if something really spectacular doesn't come my way from the used-gun shelves at a LGS.

Cabellas has a decent selection and wide variety of pistols and revolvers ... at least the one in Ft. Worth does.

I recently purchased another 1911. It was a Springfield MilSpec. It's a great shooter and a great budget minded addition to any collection.

Edit:
I guess that does sound like I got my SA 1911 from Cabellas.

Not the case ... I got it from my local gun shop.

FNP Tactical. It's a rather pricy but bad ass non-1911. Mine's been awesome.

It just screams "get some!"

the fnp tactical is AWESOME, but i'm not so sure it's worth what they charge for the things.

being a HATER of 1911's, i will suggest an xdm if you are looking for a fun 45, or a cz 75b sa if you want a seriously accurate 9mm for a great price. i'm not sure they have the 75b sa at cabelas, but i know they carry the p01. the p01 is great too.

Last time I went to Cabelas the only handgun I fondled was the CZ-75 SA Target model from their custom shop.... I am still debating on giving CZ a call and ordering one, awesome gun.

As far as 1911, within $1000, you can't go wrong with SA, they have always been great to me and my customers, Colt, Kimber's new Super Carry is nice, with a bobtail, feels great in the hands.

Any one of the Colt 1911s would be nice. I just got a Rail Gun, but if you don't have need of the rail, it's sort of a pain.

Maybe a Government Model 1991 or a Model 70 Reissue? Combat Elite? The next one on my list is a New Agent, but I wouldn't get one of those if I didn't already have a full size 1911.

Go check out their gun room too. They have some nice used pistols in there from time to time as well.

I need another deer rifle (another kid getting a permit next year!) more than a handgun.......

If this were pink, it'd be perfect:

Thanks all for the help. I went to Cabelas gift cards in hand and walked out with nothing. They had a handful of Kimber 1911's and the SA EMP however nothing caught my eye. The sales guy gave me the number for Cabelas custom gun ordering who contacted me the next day.

I first ordered from them a SA loaded Black combat however two days later SA said they are not currently making that model and I would have to wait to Feb. Next I ordered a Kimber TLE stainless which Cabelas said they had at another store and would take a month to get. I agreed and got comfortable. One week later they called and said the gun was in!

The price on the gun was $1149, which I had them price match with Midwest shooters supply to $1049. Then I had $50 in Cabelas points from the their Visa card. Apply the 525 in gift cards = 475 + tax for the gun.

I am a happy man. Taking it to the range today :)
