How do you remove the recoil pad on a Winchester 70.
I see the hole in the pad that must have a screw/bolt inside.
I just can't see what kind of screw/bolt it is.

Removal tip: Put a small dab of hand soap on the screwdriver before inserting in the removal hole. The driver will turn much easier !!!

And a little soap on the screw threads will help when (re) installing wood screws.

I have run into guns that were stood up in gravel or clay mud , and the screw head is packed with dirt ! I use a dental pick to clean the dirt out so the screwdriver can bite . I also fill the screws and hole with beeswax , Snow seal boot sealer , so they wont rust or fill up with dirt .

Dadgummit, jim----you one-upped me again with the advise to resoap the screws on the return trip.

Shop tip from the guru1911: Dip a cotton swab in your favorite wood refinishing product & paint the inside of the screw hole. Speed the drying with a hairdryer on low temp for about 5 minutes. Inside of hole will be well sealed against moisture.

You da man, jim---just messing with you bro.
