I am brand new to this forum. Also new to shooting. If I have placed this question in the wrong forum I am sorry. I have a Ruger mini 14 that is about 13 years old. Never fired. I bent my cleaning rod trying to get a brush through the bore. What did I do wrong?

make sure your pulling the brush through from the chamber side, make sure its the right size brush, and be sure not to let the rod hit the rifling. take your time, it should not be so difficult, stop before something goes wrong.

Come and take it.

If you are using a rod you will need to clean from the muzzle end as a rod cannot get a straight line from the breech end.

Was the brush for a .22?

Also, new brushes can be very tight

Otis cable style cleaning kit like the one in the video is what I use.

Other than a boresnake, my Mini's don't get very much cleaning. Only about once a year or so do I strip them down for a good cleaning.

Okay, plenty of answers. We don't need three pages of anecdotes on "How I clean my rifle."
