View Full Version : Best Pump Shotgun got me thinking

I was at one of the local gun shops and saw an ithica 37 sitting in the used gun rack.

Looked to be in good shape, no rust, good blueing, great wood. Pulled the barrel and mag cap, rust free inside as well. What is a gun like this worth?

They were asking $225

Its not that i need another gun. I have a Super X2 in excelent shape that is a pretty good do all gun. My dad has one of these that has been torture tested and is flawless inside after 40 years. Ive always liked them but don't know what they are worth.

and giggle while you leave the store.....

If its in that condition you just hit the lottery

I've seen Model 37 barrels going for that price lately

Go back and get it before someone else buy's it. I paid $280 for a 20 gauge and had to refinish the butt stock.

The Ithaca Model 37 is one of the great buys of the time, all steel, no plastic parts, fully machined. Bottom ejection/load, take down, and the best the gun is made right here, not a import like many of the others for sale.

Value in my area - depends a lot on the length of the barrel - and what the gun is choked for .... what was this one ?

That makes it pretty versatile ...especially in a 12ga. You can tighten up the pattern a little / by going to 1 1/8oz of 7 1/2's ....or loosen it up a little by going to 1oz of 9's ...

With a fixed choke - Imp Cycl / 28" barrel ... in my area it'll be $ 225 - $ 250 probably. They have a good solid reputation.

Hey, if the gun handles well it may be worth it to have choke tubes installed.

If you not going to buy it ,can you give me the shop's phone number ?:) That would be a great B day gift for my 85 year old Dad.

Great deal for a 12Ga. and even bettter for a 20Ga. ..... :)
Did it have a ribbed barrel or plain?
Look at it this way, you can always get your money out of it and then some.. ;)

Be Safe !!!

Don't get too much money tied up in that gun ....when you can buy a brand new Browning BPS Hunter model, 28" barrel and it comes with screw in chokes ( 3 chokes as standard) for around $ 500. The BPS is cast neutral / ejects out of the bottom as well ...and is certainly a strong long term pump gun.

Like I said - at $ 250 max as it is with a fixed choke / maybe $ 300 max ...if it had screw in chokes ...is about all you'd want to get into that gun / and still be able to get your money out of it.
