A friend recently took possession of what appears to be a custom .22-250.

It is built on an FN action and the barrel is stamped "Tom Eason"

Has anyone ever heard of a gunsmith or manufacturer by that name?

Have you Googled with the string, "Tom Eason" + gunsmith ?

EDIT: OK, I tried and didn't turn up anything in the 4 pages of 'G' that I browsed. Get a pic posted and more knowledgable heads might help you out.

FWIW, there have been literally thousands of gunsmiths turning out rifles of varying quality on FN and other actions for many years. The fact that he took the time to have a barrel stamp made points to the fact that he took pride in his work and was not afraid of people knowing who did it. So congratulations, you probably have a very nice post- WW2 sporter rifle. Post some pictures, because enquiring minds want to know.
