I am going to purchase a remington 700sps tactical in .308 and I am wondering what would be the best optic for this gun. I would like to keep the scope under $300 but want a quality scope with a good amount of zoom. Also if you have advice for mounts and rings that would be great too. I will be using this rifle for shooting not only targets but prarie dogs, coyotes, fox, and also both whitetail and mule deer. Thank you very much in advance for your guys advice. :)

I'd suggest two options. I would buy a $200 Nikon Buckmaster 3-9X-40mm for now and save my money for something better. OR, try to come up with another $100 and buy a $400 Zeiss Conquest.

That is what I would do, but there are many options and I'm sure others will have good suggestions in a few minutes.

I like the Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15x40 with MilDot reticle and exposed turrets. As I recall it was right at $300.00

I always use Leupold bases and rings, but redfields and weavers work well too.

Either a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 Tactical or a SS10x42 from SWFA, EGW 1-piece base, and Burris Xtreme Tactical rings.

You can get the scope, base and rings for about $300 if you go with the Bushnell scope. The total will be closer to $400 if you choose the SWFA scope.

I have The Remington 700 in .308 and on top is the Leupold Mark 4 ER/T

Nice combo imo!:D

I'll second the Zeiss. Zeiss is running a promotion on the 3x9 40mm Conquest this year: 399.00$ all year.

never owned a prostaff, but both the monarchs I had were bad to fog up on you, so I ditched them. Some people swear by Nikon, though.

Sightron SII's are also good scopes in that price range. Many, many options out there. I had a Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14X40 that was a great scope for $240. Midway is running a sale on the Buckmasters 6-18X40 right now for $299.99.

size: 3-9 x 40
brand: Leupold if you don't want to spend the money on a Zeiss
rings: I really like the Warne quick-detach series, their bases are high quality too

They're a great quality low end scope. But if the Zeiss is only $399.99, I'd get that.

Agree on Bushnell Elite 3200. Has Rainguard also.
