I just picked up a Saiga IZ-240 (5.45x39 flavor) I plan on installing the RAA skeleton stock to it and adding a scope with side mount. I thinking of getting this side mount http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/mounts/ak-vepr-saiga-romak-1-2-slr/posp-pso-bp-02-ak-saiga-vepr-centered-side-mount-to-weaver-rail.html and this scope http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/rifle-scopes/standard/po-1-5-4-5x20-fed-zoom-weapon-rifle-scope-w-duplex-reticle.html

I picked the standard height BP-02 mount since I would have the flip-up cheek piece on the stock to compensate for the added mount height but I would also be able to use my iron sights w/o removing the scope. Also, the rifle will be used mainly for inexpensive ($0.12/round!!!) paper punching out to 300 yards...but most of the time ~100 yards.

Any thoughts about different scope/side mount combo's???

I have the low profile side mount with a red dot sight. That setup provides a comfortable cheek weld. If I need to use the iron sights, I remove the mount.

Do quality removable mounts REALLY keep their zero after repeated on/off cycles?

I have the mount u mention on a Saiga x39. So far, have only attached a Bushnell Trophy MP red dot. The Belarus made mount is well built and has held zero thru many optic on/off cycling drills. It's made for it...but, it's heavy and the red dot adds another pound of weight. The piece is balanaced OK with a full 20-30 rnd mag...but gets top heavy as the mag lightens. SO...if I was building a HD/SHTF Saiga in x39 or your round...I would look a little lighter on the sighting optic...although the Trophy MP has been great, so far. The mount is solid...I've only used one, so I can't speak to their quality control. It has held zero better than my UTG QR for the same piece...Vortex the scope on the UTG is a little lighter. Thru the same cycling drills the UTG lockdown adjustment needs to be re-tightended after aound 7-10 cycles...the Belarus has remained solid.

I just ran across this mount http://cgi.ebay.com/UAG-ADJUSTABLE-SAIGA-DUAL-PICATINNY-RAIL-SCOPE-MOUNT-V5_W0QQitemZ350338017664QQcategoryZ52510QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3907.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D8%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8979259930770860504 that can be both height and center adjusted. Does anyone have any experience with it?
