View Full Version : Ammo for the Remington 597

Does anyone have any suggestions on what ammo you think is the best for the Remington 597 22LR? I have tried a few brands and can't seem to get the pattern I am looking for. Just when I think I have it dialed in, it goes off 5or 6 inches to the left or right or up or down. Can't seem to get it right and it is very frustrating.

CCI Minimags tend to be the most consistent .22LR ammo.

I have a 597 that will shoot anything extremely accurately. I have a 597 VTR that patterned like a shotgun (so a new barrel is enroute from Jarvis). Word has it that Remington had a bad batch of heavy barrels, so if it's equipped with one of those you may need to have a good hard look at it.

I had to shoot a couple of hunderd rounds through mine before I could hit anything, and then only after I made sure the barrel was floated.

I thought you only had to worry about floating a barrel if you had a wood stock or if you created too much heat on the synthetic stocks. My 597 has the camo synthetic stock. Thanks for the info.

Mine has a synthetic stock and patterned like a shotgun even at 25 yards.
That is until I floated the barrel.

Never floated a barrel before, is it hard to do? Also, thanks Alaskaman for the info. I will try some of those, if I can find them.
