View Full Version : M1A Scout Squad - How do you remove the rail?

I've decided to install an Ultimak rail on my M1A Scout Squad.

I'm having some difficulty removing the Scout rail. Can anyone help out?

I've removed the handguards, but don't seem to be able to find the right size bit or allen wrench, seems to be an odd size larger than 2.5mm but smaller than 3mm. I don't want to ruin the screws trying and would appreciate anyone's advice.

All I can promise is pictures of the finished product in return.

Thanks!

Have you tried standard sizes as opposed metric?

Maybe 7/64 on 1/8?...if I remember correctly...if not someone else here will know.

Thanks. I've tried every standard and metric size wrench and bit I've got, the metric sizes were just the closest two in between.

I'm hoping to get the new rail on and out tomorrow, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

This is just a guess, but could it be a Torx head screw?

Wrap the largest wrench that's too small with aluminum foil until it fits tightly.

I know this is a very old thread, but it was never definitively answered.

I had the same question today and found this thread.

A 7/64 hex wrench fits perfectly.
