Just bought a model 700 in 22-250 from a good friend. The gun is from 1967 and is in like new condition. The only flaw on the gun is the metal recoil pad. There is a yellow type of film on some sections of the pad. I dont know what it is or where it came from. I tried cleaning it with gun scrubber but it didnt work. Does anyone one know what this might be and how to take it off? Maybe its just from old age?

Sounds like it could be some old Varnish comming off.
Try oiling and lightly brushing with one of those Stiainless Steel tooth brushes.

Or try some spray break cleaner and the wire brush.

Good Luck - J.Solo
