When I think about 5.56 rifles an AR immediately pops into my head. I wonder whick other 5.56 rifle is or will become second most popular. I'am strickly writing about semi auto rifles for civilian use. What do you all think?

Definitely the Mini 14. Solid gun, reliable with good magazines, and priced better than an AR. Bear in mind that I looked at a Mini pretty seriously and then chose an AR.
Mini's have some accuracy issues, as i have heard, no personal experience, but they are solid rifles.
My 2 cents says keep my AR though...:D

Yep, gotta go with the Mini-14....I actually prefer mine over my AR. :)

The SCAR is seeing some limited fielding this year. Depending on Big Army's choices, we may see this rifle become more popular amongst civilians.

Ruger Mini-14, no question. With the inexpensive Accu-Strut mod my old Ranch Rifle is 1.5-2" shooter which is more than good enough for me.
Hey, I love my AR and ARs in general are just fantastic rifles in my opinion but when it comes to .223/5.56 the Mini-14 has a huge following and many many of them have been sold and continue to be.
Future? Who knows!
Best,

Is second most popular or will become second most popular? The Mini might still be second place now; but it won't be for long. It is overpriced for what you get and even Ruger has given up trying to compete with ARs via the Mini and started making their own AR.

Ruger has a 30 year headstart on everyone else whom do you think it is?? Even if they stopped making them today it would still be in 2nd place for the next 10 years.

I'm questioning the premise (or presumption) of this poll that declares, apparently by default, that the AR15 is the "king" of the .223/5.56 rifles? What are the stats on that? Just how many Mini-14's has Ruger put out over the last 30 years?
