Hey guys im going to be getting my first shotgun this year before duck season starts, this will be my first hunt. I would like to keep it under 4 or 5 hundred. What choke will i have to buy? Whats going to be the best bang for my buck?

You should go and test a few to see what fits you best. That being said, i would go with the Mossbeg 500. This is what in got for my first gun and love them now. you can pick them up at walmart for about $250. and they come in 12, 20, or .410 gauge. mine came with 3 chokes, i believe they still do.

whats the difference between the 500 waterfowl and the regular version? Is it just the stock?

as far as i can tell its just the camo finish. all the specs look the same besides that

I second getting a 500. Get at synthetic stock, it wont deteriorate if you drop it in the mud or water and the the aluminum receiver wont rust. Its a great gun with a 10 year guarantee if you buy it new.

a pump is cheap and the 500 is a decent one but before deciding you really need to know if you want a pump or not and what types of hunting you will use it for if its just waterfoul you might want 3,1/2 capabilty wich you can find in a pump like the 835,535
in an auto you can still find the remington spr 453 that will shoot 3 1/2 for under 500 there is also several other 3 inch capable autos that fall within your price range that you should probably look at if you decide that you would rather have an auto.
