View Full Version : Who is gettin' antsy?

Who is gettin' the hankerin' to sling lead or fling arrows? MAN, I caught myself sayin' "It is almost deer season..." but it is still 3 months+ away. Almost to me is the down hill side of a year:o... My first priority is to acquire a new smallish freezer. It is gonna be right in the dining room for easy access to mrs.hogdogs. Since I made her try some venison chili and venison stew, she has conceded that bambi tastes just fine.
I hope to make up a slew of 50-50, 60-40 and 80-20 venison to wild hog. Will also try my hand at breakfast sausage seasoning too.
This upcoming year MUST see a greatly reduced meat bill!

Brent, season here is only a month and a half away (mid Sept for archery). If I could find a place to hunt just a few miles south, I'd be able to start even earlier (south zone).
Yes, I'm getting very excited.

I sure am. I've got a hunting trip set with a couple of buddies in just a week and even so, I'm still feeling antsy. Still got a while before deer season opens, but bear opens up in August so that should tide me over for a bit. :D

I am not sure if it is frost free... The basic stuff from homer depot or lowes. I am going to wrap the shell and lid with insulation to increase the efficiency.

I'm getting the old shoulder in shape for slinging arrows already. It dawned on me today that Saturday is the first of August and dove season is right around the corner with bow season following a week later.
Looking forward to it :D.

It's a tough life but someone has to live it............................

:p Only 7 more weeks to Bowhunting season starts for me. Can't wait to try to stick one with my new Mathews Reezin bow and Axis arrow (Rage broadhead).
Then Muzzleloader season after that and then on to regular gun season, etc. If they had rock season, I would be chucking them at the whitetails too. I just love Deer Hunting season and can't wait for it to come. Seems a bit longer coming this time (for some reason) than ususal. :)

I should be, but I'm not.
I haven't hunted big game much since my dad died two years ago, so I have a lot of things to get ready before my mule deer hunt starts on Nov 6th.
I'll also go after a bear in early October as sort of a warm up.
But lots of stuff to do before then to keep my busy.

Moose season starts August 20th and my friend & I drew the Homer cow permit so there is a very strong chance that we wont be buying beef for over a year. Same as Hogdogs though, I'm freezer shopping because the one I have isn't nearly big enough and is already half full of our years worth of Sockeye. Fishing is done, time for the real fun/work to start. I've got the rifle all dialed in and the ammo loaded up, now I need to finish my research (never hunted the area) and get my gear together. Can't wait... I'm working nights the day brfore the season opens but then I go on my week off, hell with sleep I'm goin' huntin'!

It's killing me. I'm trying to figure out how to afford it this year. My son even provided some Fusion cartridges for my b'day.
Mom died the first of the year, attny's fees, etc. are sucking up money like no tomorrow. I really need some sanity time just sitting in the woods. Times are tough.

August is almost here and we just paid the money for our hunting lease, so I am really starting to get the fever. Generally we start putting up some ladder stands when it cools down some. When October gets here I really will get pumped up.

Hog Dog- They were DeeeLish!!! The guy who processed them for me makes the best links I ever ate. Normally, I butcher them myself but when I hunt in King City, Cal., Leno is the man...We are having a family reunion picnic Sunday. I am going to make some Pulled Pork out of the shoulder roasts for the family. We ate the back straps last week- Melt in your mouth tender. They had been feeding in a Barley field. Grain fed pork!!! MMmmmmmmmmmm...

I just got all my days off approved for the first two weeks of muzzleloader. I can't wait, I actually have access to some pretty promising hunting land this year. No more WMA for me!

Looked off the porch the other day and there were four out there wandering around at about 150-175 yards(sorry for the real bad photos).
Gave a loud whistle to stop the big one for a sec so I could see what he looked like.:)

You dont know what antsy is!!! Got back from our annual Canadian fishing trip - coldest July trip ever. Only time I can remember wearing long-johns in July! Putting my musky tackle away and I'm going stir -crazy waiting for deer season! Cabela's keeps hounding/tempting me with sales. Guess i should be moving tree-stands around or shooting my bow or stuff....Maybe I'll join a gym or look at the honey-doo list.....:D:D

I tried convincing myself that buying a bow and archery supplies would be worth it to get the drop on the "Big One" a month or so before rifle season... :D
But I'll wait... My new Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 and its Bushnell 3200 Elite Tactical 5-15x40 along with rings and base were my new "deer toy" for the year.
Can't wait to reach out and touch something besides hogs with it.
Brown will be down...
@alloy: Beautiful buck! Post the pics when you drop him!

This cool summer has had me hinking hunting and football since the beginning of july! My buddy has got 83 wonderful wooded acres full of deer and a few yotes. If we get rid of the dogs we'll see the birds come back.
