I am not sure if this should go in the Rifle Section, or the gunsmithing section. I have this M1 Garand that has this odd safety lever. I have never seen one like it. The drawing number on the trigger housing is D28290-5-SA (Springfield Armory), and the hammer is marked C4-5008-1 W.R.A. (Winchester). Has anyone seen a safety lever like this? Is is some sort of "cold weather" safety or something? Is it even USGI, or maybe aftermarket? Thanks.

I think that's a cold weather safety. If you don't get an answer here, try the CMP forum.

I think that's an M14 winter safety... part of the M5 Winter Trigger Kit

Yeah, it's a winter safety. With thick gloves, the regular safety can be hard to engage and disengage.
Not a common piece, not really rare though. I've never seen one sold seperately, usually they come in the kit form.

Heard it was more popular in Korea, due to the intense freezing.

I am keeping it. BTW, what is this part worth?
