View Full Version : Noob question on wear on an 870
April 19, 2009, 03:40 AM
I recently bought a NIB Remington 870 Express 18.5". I have noticed some wear and am wondering about it. It has a metal bracket towards the muzzle that acts as an anchor point for a sling. It wraps around the barrel and the magazine. When I take the gun apart for cleaning, this has to come off. I notice taking it off has scraped up the finish underneath somewhat. Is that normal? Also, the carrier seems to have a long scrape where the shells have been loaded. I'm not concerned about appearances so much. I just want to make sure I won't have to contend with rust later on. Is this something to worry about?
Thanks for helping out a noob.

All of that wear is 100% normal.

Congrads on the new 870.
It is normal to have friction wear on the action bars, mag tube, carrier and bolt. These represent the honors and veteran status of your 870. The scrapes you see on the bottom of the shell carrier are deposits from the brass of your shot shells and do not affect the gun.
You are right, rust proof the gun with a very light coating frequently, IT can't hurt.

Normal wear, nothing to worry about.
Brand new pump shotguns with no wear marks look rather incomplete....
