I have the exact same gun, also inherited. Its about 35 years old I think. Me and my dad always shot plastic wad shells in it. The gun has been shooting them for years. I have never heard this and I am sure they dont harm the gun.

I picked up one of those in a trade deal a couple of months ago. I sold it to my hunting partner for $50 and he cleaned off the rust freckles and went out to shoot it. Now, this is a guy that thrives on heavy recoiling guns. One of his favorite rifles is a .300 RUM! He took one shot and said that it was the hardest recoiling shotgun he has ever shot. He then promptly sold it for $75.00.
