View Full Version : How much $ for a gunsmith to install these sights?

I've been shopping around for ghost ring sights for my 870 for some time now, and I'm pretty much set my eyes on these

I figure out that I can epoxy on the front sights to the barrel myself, but I'll need a gunsmith to install the rear sights onto the reciever.

So how much would it cost for a gunsmith to install the rear sights only? I figure he would have to align it so it's parallel to the reciever, then drill and tap two holes to mount it on.

Whats the usual fee for this work described? Unfortunately I can only allocate $100 for the gunsmithing on my budget now , and I'm hoping the fee wont exceede that range.

Gunsmiths in my area charge $35 per hour. This job can be done in 15-20 minutes if you furnish the sights. Their minimum charge is $10. for .25 (1/4) hours .

Look at this site could save some money, same sight with free shipping, http://www.nightvisionsales.com/product_info.php?products_id=1741
I've read some post that say front sight has came off when glued maybe worth expense to have front sight soldered, and some fronts sights could require grinding to fit as well.

Like RetiredLawman said, its generally not too expensive unless they have to cut anything. Most places charges about $50 for front and back but it all depends on the place your taking it to. Some places might do it cheaper than the other.

Center, drill, tap, screw the sights on. Maybe 15 minutes if he takes a smoke. Both front and rear sights installed, maybe 20 minutes. A decent gunsmith has the equipment to center and drill at the right place.

You'll probably be charged for 1/2 hour. I think $50 is a bit high for your job.
