Standard reference is 25 yards.

But all depends on what type of shooting and in what fashion. Bullseye is typically 25 -50 : slow controlled fire. For action type shooting it's typically 7-15 yards : fast rapid fire.

When people say 'ONE INCH GROUPS' they are referring to MOA, which is a hair over an inch.

With out gettting too tech. Lets say 1 inch.

If you are shooting one inch groups at 100 yards it means a min of angle at 100 yards, which would be 2 inches at 200 yards, 3 inches at 300 yards, etc etc.

In reverse, a 1 in group (moa) at 50 yards would be 1/2 inch.

Also I would add, moving your sights One Min. would move the bullet impact one inch at 100 yards, two inches at 200, etc etc.

Now if you arnt confused, we can move to Mils if you like. Also the differance between the infantry mil and artillary mil.
