View Full Version : BATFE wait time?

I'm waiting for approval on a supressor. Paperwork and check was sent about the middle of January. The check was cashed about a week later and I'm still waiting.

I hear they're running about 3 months right now. The check being cashed doesn't mean anything. The check gets cashed in ATL, and then the paperwork gets sent off to NFA.
I did a form 4 back in October and it took 76 days from door to door. I got the paperwork in before the Obama craze though.
At about 2 months I'd call, with serial number and information in hand, and ask about the progress.
Then, keep waiting.

Form 3s are taking 3 weeks, but YHM takes 2 MONTHS from order date to signature date by the president. Last business I do with them on their cans. Terrible.:barf:

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm looking at getting a Gemtech suppressor. By far chance, does anyone have the lead times from Gemtech to their dealers, AND/OR a recent processing time from BATFE?

We can hire 30 people to do a goverment test on mustard and its medical benifits, but only 12 people who get paid a salery, to do a job that holds everybody up. I bet if they were gettting paid by the number of forms they completed a week they would get it done alot faster! Again just another form of control. July 7 still waiting.

Did a transfer form Tennessee to Texas and then filled out all appropriate paper work and sent it in. Being a Class III fireatrms owner now, I'd think it would be fairly quick? This was started Nov 24, 2008 and now waiting on the transfer to me since April 14. Anybody experiencing this type slowdown?
I have NO problems and ALL the paperwork it correct. What's the deal?

Sent paperwork in April 14 and got approval Sept 14. Paperwork trickles down s l o w l y. Picked up my AC556 yesterday, Oct 22. ATF kept telling me they were waiting on fingerprints to come back from FBI. Funny thing was that ATF has me on file and have a number of prints they could quickly peek at to KNOW it was me....

Funny. I was reading a thread similar to this on SilencerTalk. The thread had been going for a couple of years. The begining of the thread was from back in 2007 and people were complaining at that time about the 30 day turn- around times that their forms were taking.
I would love to see those kind of time frames again.

Got my Form 4 MG X-fer back in 44 days, I sent them the ppr work on 10/28/09 and got the approved form back on 12/11/09, examiner was Andrew Ashter. I also sent in a Form 1 for a 9mm AR15-SBR build in the same envelope which was sent out on 10/28/09...I'm still waiting on that, and I also sent in another Form 1 on 12/09/09 for a SIG 551 SBR build. Lets see how long it takes for these to come back. SBRs usually take 4-6 months in my experience.

December 19, 2009, 05:07 PM
I spoke to my examiner about submitting other approved Form 1s or Form 4s CHL, DL, Hunting Permit or even a 03 (Curio & Relic) FFL, if it would help speed up processing time. In short they said, none of the extra paperwork matters. To quote the examiner..."Each tax stamp is its own transaction, and has to go through its own due-diligence process. Submitting extraneous paperwork won't speed things up." I used to send copies of previously approved Forms but quit doing so after being told that it doesn't matter. Actually, my latest Tx MG X-fer on a Form 4 took 44 days! I was impressed, now if they can move that fast with the SBR applications I have on Form 1s I would just about crap in my pants!

See page 4 of the Form 4 instructions:
8. Status Inquiries and Questions. Information relating to the NFA and other firearms laws is available at the ATF Internet website at www.atf.gov . Any inquiry relating to the status of an application to transfer an NFA firearm or about procedures in general should be directed to the NFA Branch at (304) 616-4500. Please be aware that any dissemination by ATF of information relating to the application to register an NFA firearm must conform with the restrictions in 26 U.S.C. ยง 6103. The opportunity provided in item 8 to authorize ATF to disclose information is intended to enable ATF to respond to inquiries by the transferee regarding the application. When I got my last suppressor, the dealer provided me with a contact number and what to ask. I got to know one of the agents...I guess he was the unlucky one to answer the phone!!! It helped a bunch when he realized that I was a retired Fed!! :D

Im reneging on my assessment of "fast". The form was approved on 10/4 but they still haven't arrived at the dealer:mad: The examiner approved several forms for my dealer that same day and they have all arrived, but mine seems to be MIA:confused: This sucks.
