This is an interesting thread started over at shotgunworld.com. I was unaware of this gun and the "rainbow effect."
I thought it was historically interesting.
I thought the Browning guys here would be interested.

Some time between 1903 and 1939 is the best guess by Browning. The gun was manufactured at the F.N. factory in Belgium. Most records were lost.
From the Browning Website:
"Beginning with Serial Number 1 to approximately 228,000. Exact production figures are not available. Year of manufacture on Pre-World War II production is strictly a guess."

Designed by Val Browning, IIRC.

Bought a brand new one in the winter of 1961. That DoubleAuto (a grey one) has served me well over the intervening years and I consider it to be the finest handling non-double shotgun I've ever used while hunting grouse and woodcock. And I've handled quite a few in my time...:)
