View Full Version : Will a 12g Bore Snake fit down a 20g bore?

Hey all,

Just traded a 12g for a 20. I have a new 12g snake that I'd like to use if at all possible.

I've heard people talk about using a snake one size larger for handguns. Is the 12g snake too large or will I be able to stuff it through? I can't imagine it causing damage, just getting stuck. Which I'd like to avoid...

FWIW I was very impressed with the bore snake the one time I used it on the 12g. The barrels were spotless.

It's very tight. I've done it, but only on accident. I wouldn't do it on purpose.

I'd be real worried about breaking the string and having a stuck boresnake.

My 12 ga snake is tight enough in a 12 ga gun.

Yeah, it was pretty tight in the 12g but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks for the replies.

if its all you got, why not?
i would not if it has those copper bristles on it though, thats a load of unnecessary scuffing down your barrel.

Copper bristles won't scuff the bore.

Yeah, I'd have to call a "no-go" on that one. My 12 ga. Boresnake is TIGHT through my 870 12. The suckas a real chore to pull through that cylinder bore barrel.
I see a broken string and a firmly stuck Boresnake trying the 12 ga. snake on the 20 ga. YIKES!

"...scuffing down your barrel"?!

Copper scuffing steel, eh? hmmm...
Please tell me you were joking.:D
