Well, I got a chance to go on my first Aoudad hunt yesterday on a private ranch. The owner brought the ranch about eight years ago and had a few Aoudad on it. He never hunted them and now the heard is up to about 100 with a few well over 30 inches. We spotted the heard right away at 7:00 a.m. and started stalking them. Of couse they would always see us first and start a stampede. About an hour later and two unsuccesful stalks, I spotted some straglers moving up the hill side at a slow pace. When they finally came into a clearing, there were four smaller ones around this one. After glassing him and deciding he was a good one, I waited about five minutes untill he walked away from the other four and turned to look back in my direction. I then squeezed the trigger and down he went. It was a high lung shot at about 200 yards with a .338wm 200 grain interlockt. Bullet was recovered on opposite side under hide and must have weighed all of 40 grains. He measured 28.5 inches and 12.5 inch bases. Yes, he is already at the taxidermist and after spliting a 12 pack with the owner afterwards, I have been invited back. Don't worry, he will be getting some free ranch work out of me for sure!

Great job! He looks like he was a heart thumper. That terrain and vegetation looks like Texas.

I know! I know! The cap was a gift and I am cheap! But I should have turned it around. My apologies to my fellow Texans.

If you burn the cap while saying the Texas motto I'll fergive ya.
Nice Aoudad. My FIL was the state record holder and had #6 in the country at one time. I have no idea what it's status is now. The curl almost choked the beast and left deep scars in the tissue. Majestic creature.

Here in Texas there needs to be a "D" between those 2 letters ....No D$#n Yankees!
Great lookin Aoudad too. Gonna go for the half body/foreleg mount? I would

I wanted the half body mount but I am just lucky the wife will let me hang a shoulder mount in the house. Gotta compromise if'n I still want to go back out.;) Also, the hat has been burned and burried while singing the Eyes of Texas.
