My favorite is the 4 5/8" ruger 45 acp .45 long colt convertable. with the .45 acp cylinder it is perhaps the most accurate .45 I own its truely amazing how small the groups it shoots are at 25 yards. The best part is that i bought this gun LNIB with all papers an two cylinders for $300 OTD.

IMO they're only an advantage if you have small hands. With bigger hands and a full size SA they would be uncomfortable and recoil would be punishing.

I'll play. How about a few Smith and Wesson single action revolvers?

Second Model Russian, 44 Russian caliber, made in 1875.

First Model Schofield, 45 Schofield caliber, also made in 1875.

Driftwood, those are some nice shootin' irons. Their shape reminds me of the single shot flintlock/percussion pistols before the advent of the revolver.

I actually prefer the birdshead grip frame over all other SA grip frames.

I've found for me that other styles of SA grip frames because of their shape will position my hand to far to the top of the grip frame allowing the trigger guard to bash my finger during recoil, but not so with the birdshead grip frame.

Also grips that have more girth seem to help a lot, the custom stag grips on the little Ruger in the picture do have more girth.

At the present time I have the grip frame from my Ubertir Bisley at a custom grip maker, he's making some stag grips for it that will have more girth.

I can also get along with the Ruger Bisley grip frame which I feel is closer to a Keith #5 then a true Bisley grip frame.

I know some recommend shooting SA guns with the little finger of the shooting hand under the bottom of the grip, because of a hand injury that just does not work that well for me.

Best Regards
Bob Hunter

My usual Main Match CAS pistols. Two 2nd Gen Colts. Both chambered for 45 Colt. The top one is a late 2nd Gen, made around 1975 if I recall correctoly. The bottom one was made in 1968. Both get shot exclusively with Black Powder.

"Does that Sightmark hold up to the 454 recoil?"

JN01, I have put 300 rounds of 340 grain WLN at 1,000 to 1,250 fps through it with the Sightmark in place, plus some other lighter target loads. No problems so far.
