I bought a 20 ga 870 special field a few years back. Lately I've been looking for a slug barrel for it, without success. Do the SF models have a unique barrel or receiver?

IIRC, the magazine is shorter on the Special Fields, so the lug on the barrel sits further to the rear.

Yes, you're correct, ithas a 3-shot mag capacity. And, that necessitates a different barrel than the standard Wingmaster. But, NO accessory barrels?!?! What were they thinking?!?!

870's are cheap- set up another one for HD/slug hunting. I picked up a clean used one about 10 years ago for $145 including a Remington extension.

I should have bought a Special Field back before I got married- you know, back when I HAD money? That's a seriously nice bird gun.

They did make what you are looking for because I had a slug barrel that was made for the 870 Special Field. Pretty rare little critter. When you find one, if you find one, you will see one of two things= 1) it will be way over priced because the seller knows what he has; or 2) it will be at a give away price because the seller knows it will not fit a regular 870 and is not sure the barrel was ever made to fit a production gun...

The one I had the seller advertised as a "youth barrel" because it would not fit a standard 870.

Bottom line is that you will be better off getting a second gun set up for slugs.
