Hey guys... my birthday is coming up and im looking at semi auto shotguns! I am between the tristar viper which is on sale at Cabelas for 299.99 regually 399.99 or the stoeger m2000 which msrp is 479.99 and it comes with a free pistol grip stock. Im looking for just a good overall shotgun... not to expensive.

Any suggestions?

Thanks guys!

I currently own 2 stoeger shotguns and have had good luck with both of them. My 2000 is used for duck and deer hunting and shoots great! look into the slug barrel for it and you wont be dissapointed. Its a tack driver with Hornady ammo and knocks the socks off the deer out to 200 yds. For waterfoul im shooting Federal Black Cloud ammo and never had a problem from rain to sub-zero temps. And the benefit of a stoeger is that its recoil operated versus gas operated and alot easier to clean and less things to go wrong.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but you do realize that's twice the stated budget, right? Respectfully, when two choices are presented, it's no fun to have someone deprecate your choices and tell you to spend double.

Suppose it takes a long time to save up $300... that would mean it takes twice a long time to save up $600. So you may accidentally be recommending that the OP buy the Remington in another year?

yeah buy what suits YOU and fits YOUR budget. if you listen to everyone that says save your money and buy the next level of high dollar smokepole, and by the way that type of advise will never stop as long as there is something more expensive to buy. you may never get a gun and look at all the enjoyment you will be missing trying to save for someone elses opinion of what YOU should buy.

Check out the new[ish] Mossberg 930 semi-auto

http://personalsecurityzone.com/cgi-win/order/prodlist.exe/PSZ/?Template=ProdDetail.htm&ProductID=26865 - $440 with wood

http://personalsecurityzone.com/cgi-win/order/prodlist.exe/PSZ/?Template=ProdDetail.htm&ProductID=24746 - $425 w/synthetic

I'd get a Mossberg before either of your two choices; and the 930 is getting lots of excellent feedback as well.

Get the Mossberg - it's on my 'to get' list
