I'm interested in a coach styled shotgun and I was thinking about a Stoeger in 12 gauge

any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I love mine. It's a little fancier than what I really need- but it sure does seem like I got a whole lot more shotgun than what I paid for.

Besides the cosmetics- there are a few options you can consider. The Delux has a soft recoil pad and screw in chokes (I think they are the same as Invectors???). The standard models come with IC/M non-screw-in chokes and a hard plastic buttplate. They all have 3" chambers. And, the shotgun's stiffness was pretty much a done deal and gone after firing 2 boxes of 50.

A buddy of mine bought a Baikal (sp?) just before I bought the Stoeger. Not even 1000 rnds has passed through his and now it is unsafe to fire due to screws pulling out from mis-driling and tapping... and general poor craftsmanship.

I've had one for several years that I bought for Cowboy Action shooting.

It's been dirt-reliable. My only criticisms are:

1) I had to do some polishing on the chambers to get the empty hulls to come out easier (typical for competitive shooting).

2) I did some grinding and polishing to allow the action to break open easier (again, for competitive reasons).

3) The safety automatically engages anytime the gun is broken open. I did some home-gunsmithing to disable this aspect. The safety still works mind you, but it now doesn't automatically engage every time I break it over for reloads.

These criticisms may not be appropriate if you're not competing with it. I'd definitely buy it again.

If you don't mind my asking, for what purpose do you intend to use this shotgun?

well to add to add another good shotgun to the collection and anothing HD gun along with the 870. I personally think that a SxS is a great HD shot gun. I've always wanted one, and eventually i'll try out competition.

Thanks for your opinions.

By the way i kind of don't like the idea of the safety engaging everytime it opens, so how did you disable it? I don't have gun smithing experience, so should i just have a gun smith do it or would they not do it for me?

Just an idea to toss around... If you're not actively competing yet with the shotgun- and using it for HD- you might have a rough go with the Grand Jury if the Prosecutor waves around your shotgun and there it sits with a disabled safety. They could say that you were on the hunt for somebody to lure to your house so you could shoot him. There could be any numberr of possibilities that could spring up against you in a court- both criminally and in civil court. Just a thought.

Safety is NOT disabled. It is perfectly functional in the same fashion as a zillion other safties. You engage it manually as needed.

I just disabled the feature that engages it AUTOMATICALLY every time you break the shotgun open. I fail to see how a courtroom could have problems with that.

As far as how to do it, I'll try to tear it down and take some pictures.

I have one for CAS. It is a bare bones shotgun but serves it's purpose very well.

Why don't they offer those things with the short and long (26") bbls as a package? That would be way too great!

Stoeger's have that annoying automatic safety that's a bitch to disconnect. That's why i bought the Baikal instead:

PM me if you're interested in buying it
