View Full Version : Tell me about these optics for my AR.

February 28, 2008, 04:21 PM

I'm looking for one with some magnification as my eyes aren't that great. :( I won't be using any nightvision equipment if that matters.

I'm leaning toward something from Aimpoint since I hear the batteries last & it's durable. I glanced at the Trijicon's but their out of my budget.:o

It will go on an 5.56 AR with a 16" barrell & 1/7 twist.

Thanks for the advice.:)

do any of the Aimpoints offer magnification?

...without a magnifier that costs as much as the original optic anyway?

no night vision and dont want to spend $700+?

i'd go with the ML3(no magnification though).

get the cantilever mount if you think you may add a magnifier later....or it just looks cooler(i think so:D).

btw-i know you mentioned being out of your budget, but if you really want some magnification i'd take a long look at the Trijicon TR21,with the SPR-E mount(entended eye relief mount).

love mine.

You mean that this isn't an Aimpoint scope?

nope, thats just a magnifier that mounts behind another red dot sight that you'd need.

it pivots off to the side when you're not using it.

check out the video presentation(actually a slide show).

Oh Jinsing shwa kap-a-dao*. This AR optic stuff is complicated. I just want something to help me hit targets about 300-500 feet away.:(

*If you have ever seen "Firefly", you'll get it.;)

what size targets?

a simple red dot would be pretty effective for that range(100-150 yards) or more.

again though,if you want some magnification i would consider this deal...

its basically like a red dot at 1.25x with the ability to go up to as much as 4x if needed.

i went with the amber model.

Man sized.

the Aimpoint ML3 should be just fine for that,at 300-500 feet....

now yards/meters might be a little tougher.:D

Does this optic have a zoom ability? Would I need to buy an additional part?

3x magnifier,like with the Aimpoint.

if you dont want to spend more than $500 or so and need Magnification...

you might want to look at some low magnification Burris scopes,or maybe the Millet?

you can get some with illuminated ret's and with a low end of arround 1.25x....maybe for what you're wanting to spend.

The Millett DMS-1 1-4x might fit the bill: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=186660&t=11082005
