View Full Version : A story my grandfather told me.

My grandfather told me once when he was young & times were hard that his father would send him out to hunt with a trapdoor 45/70. The weird thing is he said that he would always carry a few 410 shells just in case he saw a rabbit or squirrel & he did on occasion use them to successfully bring home some food for the family. I'm just curious, but if you found yourself in the stereotypical "end of the world" situation, could one actually do this? I would think that the rifling would make effective range 10 yards or so? Makes ya wonder sometimes.

I went bunny whacking with a buddy one winter day and he showed up with a scoped shot gun:D I about fell over sayin' good luck getting the bunny to stop long enuff to get it in the scope. He told me only had the rifled slug barrel:o no bead on it... from watchin' him try, the pattern wasn't so bad but he was always a foot behind the rabbit... He did get a couple... after I convinced him to look into the future and shoot hoping the bunny runs into the shot! You never realize how much leadin we use until you can't look down the barrel.
