Here you see this knoxx stock product:

Notice the way the shells are facing, up towards the sky.

Are shotgun shells water resistant when it rains ? I think buck / bird shots are sealed at the end. but my slugs are exposed. Does water seep into and around the rifled slugs and wet the powder ?

or should one put the shells facing down ?

My guess would be that the open ended slugs would be susceptible to water seepage. I would suggest putting them primer side up, but you could devise a simple test. Put one of your slug in a glass of water for an hour and then the next time your at the range try to shoot it.

i don't have a knox stock. but i have a slipon butt cuff that holds 5. i keep mine primer up. just a force of habit. i never had one not fire . and as far as putting a shell or 2 in a glass of water and leaving it there for an hour. i have not tried that i might to see what happens. i do have some breneke slugs that say protect from moisture (on the box). i am not certain why. maybe because water can get past the slug and wet the powder.

I always load shells primer/rim up. If I have to cover ground fast for any reason it is less likely to slide out the bottom...
To water proof yer shells just melt some parrafin wax and pour some on top and quickly shake off extra... I do the same on primer end. These are going to be a bit "dirtier" but well worth it for the "hard times".

I don’t think that stock has much of an outdoor application. That is set up is to be a “tactical” (most over used word in gundom) shotgun. The upside down shells are aid in quicker loading. Or so that’s what they say.

well, tactical can be outdoors too, what if it rains during your "operation" ?
