I recently acquired a Savage 99 E in 308 Cal as a gift. Where can I find instructions as to takedown and assembly ? The serial # is AO543XX Also does anybody when this gun was made.Thanks Neil

I don't know if this will help or not. According to the Standard Catalog of
Firearms, the Model 99E (E for economy) was produced from 1960-84. However, the SN you show does not match with those dates. Regardless, early Savage factory information indicates there should not be a big difference in takedown procedures. With that in mind you may want to see the NRA Guide to Rifles and Shotguns. Instructions there may help you.

I bought mine at Sportsmans Warehouse. They can also be ordered
through Barnes & Noble, or Borders Books. Brownells and Midway may
also sell them.
This book has full takedown instructions for 66 different rifles.
Very handy to have, and money well spent. 5 books in the series.
$20 each.
